Drag Queens AND Go-Go Boys? Finally, a reason to go to Atlantic City

4 Jun

YES, it’s a bit schlocky and YES, I am going…

In case you haven’t heard, the Resorts Casino Hotel right smack dab on the historic boardwalk in Atlantic City has launched a gay bar called Prohibition. The nightclub is located on the 13th floor of Resorts International, which was the first casino to open in Atlantic City in 1978. The theme of both the casino and the bar is “decadent 1920s” and very much inspired by the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire” (watch it) about Prohibition-era Atlantic City.

(Please note the folks at the bar in this shot of Prohibition, below. SO amazing.)

But Prohibition isn’t the only option for Gay-ness in AC. Harrah’s, Caesars, Bally’s have always offered options including, “An Evening at La Cage” for over 11 years now, and the Showboat casino hotels have hosted “Out In Atlantic City” weekends in recent years. In addition, there’s always the Miss’d America pageant at Boardwalk Hall.

As if a constant gay bar isn’t enough fun, Resorts also has a drag show called Believe – Divas in a Man’s World

The show is rumored to be pretty good. Here’s a teaser…

Steve Andrade, who put the show together and stars as Cher, has assembled some talented “female impersonators” from across the country, including Phyl Craig as Liza Minnelli and Gary Dee as Joan Rivers. This is actually an impressive cast. You may have even seen Gary Dee as a guest on Joan’s show…

From what I hear, the costumes are fabulous.

Other celebrity sitings throughout the show include Nancy Sinatra, complete with “These Boots Are Made For Walking” and Electra’s Bette Midler who performs “Wind Beneath My Wings”, with actual wings…

Check out a great interview with Steven Andrade about putting the show together.

Guilty pleasures, anyone? Find “Believe – Divas In A Man’s World” at Resorts Atlantic City now through July 25.
